Warner Bros. recently unveiled the first official image of Jared Leto as The Joker (if you missed the image, you can check it out by clicking here), and it’s been pretty controversial with comic book fans to say the least. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck has been spotted on the set of Suicide Squad suited up as Batman.

Rumours have been running rampant that he will make a cameo appearance in that movie and that a scene featuring The Joker has been shot for a flashback sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Whatever the case may be, expect to see the Caped Crusader clash with the Clown Prince of Crime at some point in the next few years. When they do inevitably meet – hopefully in a solo movie for Batman – which comic book story would be best served as inspiration? Well, there are a long list of possibilities!

Here, you will find just ten of the very best Batman/Joker stories which we would like to see in some way, shape, or form on the big screen. Some you will have heard of, others you won’t, but all are essential.

10. Five Way Revenge

Five Joker

“Five Way Revenge” came at a time when Batman comics desperately needed to move away from the campy tone established by the 1960s TV series. The story revolved around The Joker’s attempt to take out five henchman who had displeased him in various ways, leaving the Dark Knight with no other choice than to protect those he would normally be giving his all to take down.

As well as showing The Joker’s disregard for those in his employ, this story increased the complexity of Batman and The Joker’s relationship. After ambushing a tired and weakened Batman, the villain decided that his victory was a case of luck rather than being the better man, so he chose to leave his foe alive.

Elements of all of this in a movie would work nicely.
