The reaction to X-Men: Apocalypse has been surprisingly mixed, and while it most definitely hasn’t received the same sort of almost overwhelmingly negative response that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did, it can’t be the reaction Fox were hoping for (especially after spending well over $250 million on it in the hopes of having a return of $1+ billion).

How the movie is going to end up performing at the box office remains to be seen, but X-Men: Apocalypse is out now in UK cinemas, and chances are you won’t have been able to resist seeing what is without a doubt Bryan Singer’s most comic book-y X-Men movie yet.

What you’ll find here is an in-depth breakdown of all the movie’s best moments (I loved it) and Easter Eggs, along with an analysis of what those more than likely mean for the future of the franchise.

It goes without saying then that major spoilers follow, but if you’ve seen the movie or are just curious about what to expect, then keep reading for all the juicy details…

10. A Flashback To Ancient Egypt

Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse kicks off with a flashback to Ancient Egypt as we meet an ageing Apocalypse who is worshipped by thousands of followers, but in desperate need of a new body.

As it turns out, he’s found one – who just so happens to look like Oscar Isaac – that will give him the power to regenerate and live forever, but after being betrayed by some of his men, En Sabah Nur is left trapped deep beneath the Earth.

What’s really great about this sequence though is seeing just how loyal his Four Horsemen (four mutants who I definitely don’t recognise from the comic books) are as they willingly sacrifice themselves in order to keep their leader safe. That perfectly sets the stage for everything which follows.
