John Hillcoat’s Lawless is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and the anticipation couldn’t be higher with just a few shorts weeks to go until its release.
The film debuted at Cannes back in May to brilliant reviews – you can read our own review here – and now 28 new hi-res images have made their way online, including three images of Hillcoat on set with his cast and crew.
Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf lead an all-star cast, joined by Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke, and Dane DeHaan.
“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Hillcoat is directing from a script by Nick Cave, who adapts the original novel by Matt Bondurant, The Wettest County in the World, which was initially to be the film’s name.
Lawless will be released by The Weinstein Company on 29th August in the US, followed by a 7th September release here in the UK. The positive reaction from Cannes certainly suggest an Oscar campaign could well come in due course, and we can’t wait to see how it fairs when it hits the big screen in a few weeks.
