It’s been five long years since we last saw a Ben Stiller-directed film, and 2013 is the year in which he will finally return with the anticipated The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Stiller took the first footage from the movie to CinemaCon back in the spring, where it was received with a very positive response. Out of that early reception, the Oscar buzz quickly began to gain momentum, and now the first trailer has arrived to give us an idea of what we have coming our way this December.
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
Stiller is both behind and in front of the camera, starring as the eponymous lead. And he’s joined by a great cast, led by Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Sean Penn, Kathryn Hahn, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine.
The film is a remake of the 1947 movie of the same name, which in turn is based on James Thurber’s original short story. Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) has penned the script, with Stiller producing alongside John Goldwyn (Dexter, I’m Not There.), Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. (Master and Commander), and Stuart Cornfeld (Tropic Thunder, Zoolander).
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is due to hit cinemas in the US on Christmas Day, with its UK release date set for Boxing Day, though that may be brought forward to 20th December. As the countdown continues for its arrival, here’s your first good look at the film. Enjoy.
