Star Wars Underworld never happened because of how expensive it would have been to make a reality, and as a result, hundreds of unused scripts are sitting somewhere in Lucasfilm. The animated Star Wars Rebels is obviously doing well, but based on comments from ABC President Channing Dungey, it sounds like a live-action show could still happen.

So, just how likely is it that a Star Wars TV show will become a reality in the near future?

“As a fan I would absolutely love to say yes,” she said during the TCA’s summer press tour today. “We have had conversations with [Lucasfilm] and we will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand onto our programming. It’s all a little bit hush-hush. That company exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel is secretive, Lucas takes it to a whole other level.”

Talking of Marvel, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t done particularly well on ABC and Agent Carter was cancelled, so would Lucasfilm really want to put Star Wars on that network?

It’s certainly possible, but chances are that it won’t happen for a very long time. After all, the first of Lucasfilm’s big screen Anthology movies appears to be in trouble behind the scenes, so the studio may very well want to keep their focus on their movie projects for now…
