This is the one we’ve been waiting for: The first trailer for Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers.

The film made its world premiere at Venice last year, and followed it up days later by screening at TIFF – you can read our review here – which is where I saw the film, and thought it was brilliant.

Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez really break out of the stereotypes they’ve previously been associated with, with James Franco giving an equally brilliant performance as rapper/drug and arms dealer, Alien.

We’ve seen plenty of great images and two clips from the film so far, with the latest teaser poster released last week. And now the first trailers have finally debuted online – both the US and the French versions – giving us a great first full look at the film.

“Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.”

Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine are all excellent as the young leading quartet, with Franco’s performance arguably one of the best of his career so far.

Korine is once more directing from his own script, with the renowned Skrillex working on the score alongside Cliff Martinez (Drive, Contagion).

The film has been dividing critics in recent months since its debut, and with just over two months before it hits Stateside, I’m looking forward to hearing audiences’ reactions to it. I have a feeling it’s going to be a big hit, and that it’s going to have one hell of a cult status in the years to come.

Spring Breakers will be released in the US on 22nd March, shortly after getting its US premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. And its UK release date is set for April 5th. Here are those all-important first trailers. Enjoy.
