After scoring rave reviews, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has predictably been a hit at the box office this weekend, earning an impressive $290.5 million worldwide. $155 million of that came from North America where it now has the second highest December opening of all-time behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens (by an admittedly fairly wide margin).

Debuting at #1 in every single market it was released in, Rogue One nabbed the fourth biggest December opening internationally with $135.5 million. Had it also reached China and Korea at the same time, there’s obviously a good chance it would have done better than this. Still, it’s by no means a bad result, and the Anthology movie is off to a fantastic start so far!

Rogue One hasn’t broken the records that The Force Awakens did, but Disney and Lucasfilm have been saying all year that they didn’t expect the spinoff – which is set before the events of A New Hope – to reach those heights. After all, the J.J. Abrams helmed release is currently the second biggest movie in history and ultimately made more than $2 billion globally.

In the UK, Rogue One earned a whopping $21 million, and that means it had the second biggest December opening of all time (behind The Force Awakens) and the biggest of 2016.
