The first rumblings of the resurgence of Japanese horror were felt in the early twenty-first century when Ringu found its way into video stores across the UK. The notion of an audio-visually transmitted spectre is very much a product of the digital age and, at the time, the shock of the original film was striking.

The mystery of Sadako, anglicised as Samara in the US remakes, has propelled a number of sequels, prequels and team-ups in the finest horror tradition; The Ring vs The Grudge is coming our way later this year with a grim inevitability.

Never ones to be outdone Rings is the latest in the US series and a first trailer has surfaced, with enough call backs to haul saga fans back into the loop. The cast includes Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and the mighty Vincent D’Onofrio bringing the gravitas.
