Prisoners-PosterDebuting on the festival circuit in recent weeks at Telluride and then TIFF, Denis Villeneuve’s Prisoners has earned very strong early reviews, which isn’t the easiest of feats to do with critics in the thriller genre.

Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal lead a stellar ensemble cast, and with the movie heading into US cinemas this weekend, on general release from today, Warner Bros. has debuted a new featurette, looking behind the scenes of the kidnapping thriller.

Keller Dover is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His 6-year-old daughter and her young friend are missing, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki arrests its driver, but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?

Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola David, Melissa Leo, and Paul Dano star alongside the leading duo.

Villeneuve is coming off the back of the Oscar-nominated Incendies, himself earning a BAFTA nomination for the film, and things are naturally looking very good as his latest heads into cinemas, with a script penned by Aaron Guizikowski (Contraband).

Prisoners is now playing in the US as of today, September 20th, with its UK release date set for next Friday, 27th September. Here’s the latest featurette, if you needed any more persuading.
