When it was revealed that Les Miserables and X-Men: Days of Future Past star Hugh Jackman would be playing a villainous pilot in Joe Wright’s upcoming take on Peter Pan (described as an origin story for the titular character), many assumed that the Australian actor would take on the role of Captain Hook.

However, Pan is going to take things in a very different direction, and Jackman will instead be outfitted with a flying ship – and shockingly cool looking facial hair – as the classic and dreaded pirate Blackbeard.

In this version, Jackman’s character leads a group of men who have been kidnapping young wartime orphans, and one of them just so happens to be the Peter we all know and remember from J.M. Barrie’s classic novels. You can actually see him (played by Levi Miller) below in the two new images released from Pan today.

One of the biggest twists here is that Captain Hook isn’t a captain when we meet him in Pan. Instead, he’ll be played by Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy) and is described as being a dashing Indiana Jones type.

So, this is obviously a very different take on the classic story, and Warner Bros. has today released the brand new trailer which was shown over the weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con. It looks like a lot of fun…
