With a title that sounds like an elevator pitch Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates wears its dark heart on its sleeve. Not that there are many sleeves here – it’s a balls-out, shirts-off wholly American comedy from director Jake Szymanski and writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien.

Zac Efron and Adam Devine are our titular characters and their hard partying ways need to be neutered lest they disrupt the Hawaiian wedding of their sister. Thus they go on TV, obviously, to find two respectable girls who will curb their wayward hedonistic ways.

Aubrey Plaza, looking very much like her Dirty Grandpa character, and Anna Kendrick are those girls. The problem is that they are as foul-mouthed, porn-soaked, cocktail-chugging as the best of them. Filthy hilarity ensues as they attempt to out-do each other and maybe, just maybe, find love on the way.

The film is out in UK cinemas on the 12th of August.
