Everyone loves a superhero film these days – whether it’s Batmen, Wonder Women, Deadpools or Spider-Men – and it’s no surprise that Hollywood is continuing the trend by adding more to the ever-growing roster and Sony may have added their latest to proceedings.

Deadline is reporting that the studio is setting up a film based on comic-book Bloodshot. The comic is part of the Valiant Comics’ series and the studio is looking at setting up a shared universe based on them. And the site is reporting that they may have secured their first star in the form of Academy Award Winner Jared Leto.

Leto, who starred in last year’s comic-book villains team-up Suicide Squad as The Joker, is reportedly in talks for the film and would see him play Angelo Mortalli, “a mobster who is transformed into an unstoppable killing machine as part of a shady military project.”

Bloodshot tells the story of a “former soldier with powers of regeneration and meta-morphing made possible through nanites injected into his blood. After having his memory wiped numerous times, Bloodshot is out to discover who he really is and get vengeance on those who did this to him. Bloodshot’s bloodstream contains a billion nanocomputers, enabling him to heal from injuries quickly, interface with technology, and shape shift his mass.”

The comic series is part of a five-picture deal between Sony and Valiant Comics and will see an extended universe set up.

No word yet on whether Leto will reprise his role as the Gotham Clown in the upcoming Suicide Squad, or indeed Justice League or Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman, but at the moment it seems unlikely. He will next be seen, however, in Blade Runner 2049, in which he co-stars with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the Denis Villeneuve-direced sequel due for release on October 6th.

No release date or director have yet been announced for Bloodshot.
