Having wrapped his glorious, mullet-adorned work on “Machine-Gun Preacher”, Gerard Butler had been sniffing around for his next project. He may land, so say Deadline, on Afterburn, a comic-book adaptation that may be helmed by Antoine Fuqua (Brooklyn’s Finest, Training Day, King Arthur).

Afterburn is set after a massive solar flare has scorched half of the earth’s surface, with treasure hunters scavenging for whatever may have been left in the wake of the flare. Matt Johnson (Torque, Into the Blue) has written the script, although apparently it is going to go through a rewrite at the hands of Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart) before going in front of the cameras.

So far, Butler and Fuqua are both just “in talks”. We will let you know as soon as we hear anything more on this interesting sounding project.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
