Apart from the odd glimpse here and there, J.J. Abrams has been keeping Star Wars Episode VII safely contained within his Mystery Box. What we have seen so far though certainly points to the Star Trek director taking inspiration from original trilogy production concepts by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston.

The following images – which are apparently the new Stormtrooper designs from the upcoming Star Wars trilogy which kicks off with Episode VII on December 18th – are another good indication of that, and this new look for the Imperial Forces seems to blend both the classic design with a modern twist which should work perfectly.

The final image is said to be either an updated version of the Snowtrooper’s last seen on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back, though there has also been speculation that it could be a Jungle Trooper.

A lot of Star Wars fans didn’t love the redesign for the Clone Troopers in the prequels, but these designs look fantastic. Of course, the fact that the Stormtroopers are still around and looking more advanced than even (despite the fall of Darth Vader and The Empire) won’t be good news for Episode VII’s heroes…

The impressive cast of Star Wars Episode VII features Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker, as well as series newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
