When Zach Braff took to Kickstarter for his new film project it was a milestone for the crowdfunding site, and a divisive move by the director.

His first film, the now decade-old Garden State, was a whimsical journey back home for Braff’s lead character. There to find himself, peeking his head up and out from the torrid waters of real life. It was hailed as an ‘indie-darling’ which I assume means it was enjoyed by people, and I know that I was one of them. Since then we’ve been waiting for the next step from Braff and this new film may just be it.

Wish I Was Here debuted at Sundance earlier in the year to positive reviews, and from what we’ve already seen this looks be very much in the director’s wheelhouse. Centering on a couple (mid-thirties now) trying to survive amidst family worries and career delusions the film has a decent cast with Kate Hudson, Josh Gad and Mandy Patinkin in support.
