Whether they’re on the small screen or the big one, it’s impossible to escape remakes these days. The latest to join the ever growing list is Flatliners, though a new take on the 1990 Joel Schumacher helmed movie has been in the works for a fair few years now to be fair.

Regardless, it’s been revealed today that Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is in talks to join the cast of the movie which is being directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and written by Ben Ripley (Source Code). There’s currently no word on who she’ll be playing, but many have assumed that Page will take over Julia Roberts’ role.

The original Flatliners also starred Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon, and it focused on a group of medical students who journeyed into the afterworld to find meaning in their own lives before being resuscitated in the nick of time. Of course, things go horribly wrong!

The premise of Flatliners is an interesting one, and while a reboot may not seem entirely necessary, there’s no denying the fact that this version has the potential to take the concept and really do something just as fun and unique with it. Page being cast is also a good start, and well be sure to keep you updated on how this new version of Flatliners comes together…
