Edgar Wright

After parting ways with Marvel Studios, Edgar Wright has reportedly already set his sights on another project. The British filmmaker was attached to Ant-Man for over eight years, making it all the more surprising when it was announced a few days ago that “creative differences” had led to him moving on.

However, that hasn’t stopped the director of The World’s End from working with Disney as Deadline reveals that he is planning on heading straight into their remake of the TV series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Wright has been developing the project for a number of years now, so it’s a logical move.

His plan is apparently for Johnny Depp to play the tabloid news reporter (Darren McGavin in the original ’70s movie and series), though that very much depends on whether or not he can find the time as he’s playing Whitey Bulger in Black Mass and is attached to another Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

Depp is no longer the box office draw he once was though after several notable flops, so it perhaps wouldn’t be the worst thing for Wright if the actor wasn’t able to appear in the movie!

For those of you unfamiliar with the original series, the site describes it as focusing on Kolchak as he, “covered crime for a tabloid and his cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. Of course, neither his editor nor anyone else would believe him or allow him to run what seemed like outrageous stories, but he always got close enough to the truth that he was stalked by these great villains and found a way to dispatch them.”

What do you guys think about this as the next project for Edgar Wright?
