Ever since Dallas Buyers Club opened to universal critical acclaim and cleaned up at just about every awards ceremony you can think of, film lovers have been wondering what Jean-Marc Vallee would make his next project. Luckily, he confirmed it would be Janis Joplin biopic, “Get It While You Can” a little earlier this year.
Of course, after finishing work on Dallas Buyers Club, Vallee directed Reese Witherspoon in Wild and has just finished shooting Demolition, a movie with a cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper.
However, he’s now found a leading lady to play Janis Joplin in the form of American Hustle and Man of Steel star Amy Adams! Ron and Theresa Terry penned the script and the plan is to shoot the movie mid-2015.
Dallas Buyers Club scribes Craig Borten and Melissa Wallack (who earned an Oscar nomination for their work on that movie) are in negotiations to rewrite the screenplay, and sources say that Adams has been interested in playing Janis Joplin for a number of years now. The actress will apparently also sing in the movie.
This isn’t the first attempt to bring Janis Joplin’s story to the big screen, but it is the first to actually come together and is by far the most impressive in terms of the director and leading actress. What do you think?
