With Comic-Con fast approaching later this week, it’s easy to forget that 2015 will play host to some very high-profile films that won’t be making an appearance in San Diego. Fifty Shades of Grey is undeniably one of the biggest, and Universal has cemented that status even further by having Beyoncé launch the first official footage from the film.

The first trailer is set to launch this coming Thursday, right when we’re expecting to start seeing footage emerge from Comic-Con, which makes for a very interesting choice from Universal and Focus.

Courtesy of Amazon, here’s the synopsis for E.L. James’ original novel:

When literature student Anastasia Steele interviews successful entrepreneur Christian Grey, she finds him very attractive and deeply intimidating. Convinced that their meeting went badly, she tries to put him out of her mind – until he turns up at the store where she works part-time, and invites her out.

Unworldly and innocent, Ana is shocked to find she wants this man. And, when he warns her to keep her distance, it only makes her want him more.

But Christian is tormented by inner demons, and consumed by the need to control. As they embark on a passionate love affair, Ana discovers more about her own desires, as well as the dark secrets Christian keeps hidden away from public view.

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson take the joint leads as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, with support from Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Jennifer Ehle, Max Martini, Marcia Gay Harden, Rita Ora, and Eloise Mumford, with an appearance expected from Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) is at the helm, with Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) adapting James’ novel for the screen, and rewrites from Patrick Marber (Closer) and Mark Bomback (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

Fifty Shades of Grey will be released on February 13th in the US and UK, just in time for the Valentine’s weekend. Be sure to check back on Thursday for the first trailer in full.
