Jonah Jameson’s personal assistant and a love interest for Peter Parker.
Marc Webb is attached to direct the reboot, with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and Rhys Ifans all on board.
Deschanel previously worked with director Marc Webb in the critically-praised (500) Days of Summer, which also starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Production on the as-yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to commence in December, with a release date set for July 3, 2012.
