It’s been five years since the release of Zombieland, and while talk of a sequel has never really stopped since that movie proved to be a hit with critics, moviegoers and at the box office, it’s just never come to fruition.

Amazon tried and failed to recapture the first movie’s magic with a failed pilot on their online streaming service. However, Warner Bros. are now prioritising a sequel to the original $100 million hit with Dave Callaham hired to pen the screenplay. His credits include Doom, The Expendables film and Godzilla.

Callaham was also one of the writers who worked on Ant-Man’s screenplay after Edgar Wright departed.

The most exciting part of this news is the fact that Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is overseeing the development of the new script and that he will also return to helm the long overdue sequel!

There’s currently no word on whether or not original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin will return, but each of their careers has taken a HUGE leap forward since the release of Zombieland in 2009, so it could be that this movie will focus on a new group of characters.
