24 was brought back last year and Twin Peaks looks set to finally get that third season in 2016. Another popular series close to being revived is X-Files, and a new report appears to indicate that it’s all coming together rather well. Talk of it making a return first started back in January when Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman revealed that X-Files creator Chris Carter was in talks to bring the show back at the network.

Original stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were said to be onboard with the idea and a new report claims that Fox are close to giving a less than ten episode limited series the green light. There have been reports that this new X-Files would possibly run for just six episodes, but that is obviously unconfirmed.

The original series ran between 1993 and 2002, and so it makes sense that the network would be cautious about how many instalments of the sci-fi drama they commit to. A full 22 episode order would obviously be a massive risk, and it appears Fox may even be reluctant to do a 24: Live Another Day by giving it 12.

Could this X-Files series lead to another movie? We’ll just have to wait and see. Earlier this year, Duchovny had this to say about plans for this revival. “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.”
