Apple TV has dropped the eerie first teaser for its upcoming original series ‘Widow’s Bay,’ a genre-blending tale that stitches together horror and character-driven comedy with a salt-stung coastal edge. Led by Emmy Award-winner Matthew Rhys, who also serves as executive producer, the series comes from creator Katie Dippold and Emmy Award-winning director Hiro Murai.
Set on a remote island where the wind seems to whisper old secrets, “Widow’s Bay” introduces Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys), a man trying to drag his struggling community into the modern age. The odds are stacked high and strange: there’s no Wi-Fi, mobile signal flickers like a dying lighthouse bulb, and the locals cling tightly to their belief that the island is cursed.
Loftis isn’t exactly the picture of confidence. The townspeople see him as soft, even cowardly and they’re not entirely wrong. Still, he’s determined to prove himself, not just to them, but to his teenage son. His grand plan? Transform the isolated island into a thriving tourist destination.
Against all logic, it works.
Tourists begin to arrive. Hope flickers.
And then the past wakes up.
After decades of eerie calm, the island’s long-dismissed legends begin clawing their way back into reality. What once sounded like drunken folklore now feels dangerously real, turning Loftis’ dream into something far more sinister. The teaser hints at a creeping dread beneath the surface, where humour and horror intertwine like seaweed around a shipwreck.
The series boasts a strong ensemble cast alongside Rhys, including Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, with supporting performances from K Callan and Emmy Award-winner Jeff Hiller.
