HBO’s Watchmen pilot has found a whole host of actors to fill key roles on the series which includes Regina King and Don Johnson.

The Damon Lindelof-created series has also cast Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard. The Leftovers’ Regina King will take on the lead role in the series. No further character details have been revealed.

Lindelof, on Tuesday, gave a little insight into the direction his series will take. Whilst being careful not to reveal too much he revealed that the series will be moving away from the graphic novel; expect new characters set in the present day.

Some of the characters will be unknown,” he said. “New Faces. New masks to cover them. We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes…and it is here we will be taking our greatest risks.

The graphic novel was created by a British creative team of writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colourist John Higgins. It was published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987, and collected in a single volume edition in  1987. Watchmen originated from a story proposal Moore submitted to DC featuring superhero characters.

As well as The Leftovers, King has previously been seen in Netflix series Seven Seconds and The Big Bang Theory. She has also starred in films such as Ray, Jerry Maguire and more.  Johnson is better known for his role in Miami Vice in the 80’s but has recently been seen in Book Club, Django Unchained, and Machete.
