This year’s NFL league game at Wembley Stadium takes place this weekend against the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and top coincide with the event, they’ve also hired out Trafalgar Square for a rather special screening of 1996 movie starring Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger, Jerry Maguire. The movie also stars Oscar winner star, Cuba Gooding Jr. as Rod Tidwell who will be in attendance and it sounds like it’s going to be a rather fun event alongside some NFL legends.

I’ve placed the full press release below. Tickets are free on a first come first serve basis with the movie starting at 7 but get there from 6 tomorrow night, 21th October.

CUBA GOODING JR JOINS NFL IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE THIS WEEK FOR UNIQUE SCREENING OF ‘JERRY MAGUIRE’

October 2011 – Oscar-winning actor CUBA GOODING JR will join fans in London for a unique Trafalgar Square screening of Jerry Maguire on Friday October 21 as the NFL kicks off the weekend of its Pepsi Max International Series game.

Featuring Gooding in an Oscar-winning performance as NFL wide receiver Rod Tidwell, Jerry Maguire is being shown as part of NFL Friday Night Lights, supported by Motorola Mobility. The event will give NFL fans and movie buffs the chance to enjoy an outdoor screening of one of the most iconic sports films ever made, getting them in the mood for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ matchup at Wembley Stadium two days later.

In the unprecedented movie setting of a historic London landmark, visitors can watch – free of charge – one of the most iconic sports movies ever made, starring Tom Cruise as the idealistic agent looking after his prized client, a wide receiver with the Arizona Cardinals. Jerry Maguire, directed by Cameron Crowe, saw Gooding pick up the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, while the quote by his character Tidwell, “Show me the money!”, went down in movie folklore.

As well as hearing Gooding discussing the making of the film, fans can enjoy former San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens talking about the meeting of NFL reality with Hollywood story-telling and whether the player-agent relationship is more believable in fact or fiction.

NFL Friday Night Lights runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Jerry Maguire screened from 7:00 p.m. Entry is FREE, on a first-come, first-served basis. As well as complimentary popcorn, ponchos (in the event of rain) and NFL branded souvenir seating provided on the night, the open air entertainment will feature performances by the Buccaneers cheerleaders & the opportunity to buy highly sought-after NFL merchandise
