Warner Bros. have acquired an original script writer Daniel Sussman and producer Polly Johnsen, tentatively titled Galveston, THR are reporting.

Here’s the premise:

Back in 1900, a Category 4 hurricane destroyed Galveston, taking with it about 8,000 people. In the aftermath of the storm, nearby Houston rose up on the back of its oil boom, and Galveston never regained any kind of prominence.

Against the backdrop of a devastating hurricane, Galveston traces the stories of a pair of young lovers on the verge of being separated, a struggle for power among various bureaucracies and a bitter love triangle involving two brothers.

Johnsen will producer Galveston through her Polymorphic Pictures production company, while Sarah Schechter and Chris Gary will overlook for Warner Bros.

Galveston has a lot of potential, I just hope it doesn’t end up being another cheesy disaster film in the vein of Volcano or Dante’s Creek.
