Lionsgate have given us these two new exclusive UK TV spots for their new movie, Machine Gun Preacher directed by Marc Forster and starring Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, Madeline Carroll, Michael Shannon, Souleymane Sy Savane. The story is based on the true accounts of Sam Childers who through various circumstances ends up protecting a group of refugee children in East Africa. I’ll let the synopsis do the talking but the movie is released in the UK 2nd November.

You can find out more on the official Facebook page or click here for all our coverage including trailers.

MACHINE GUN PREACHER is based on the true story of Sam Childers (Gerard Butler in a tour de force performance), a violent, drug-dealing biker whose faith leads him on a path to East Africa, where he finds his true calling as a machine gun-wielding protector of hundreds of refugee children.

Following a brutal incident, Sam’s loyal wife Lynn (Michelle Monaghan) encourages him to turn to God and he resolves to change the course of his life.  Renouncing his hell-raising ways, Sam journeys to Sudan as a missionary to help with the relief effort, leaving his best friend Donnie (Michael Shannon) to take care of his wife and daughter. There, he witnesses the atrocities that the locals endure at the hands of the vicious Lord’s Resistance Army. Villages are razed to the ground, women are raped and children are kidnapped and forced to serve as child soldiers. Horrified by what he sees, Childers becomes an avenging angel set on protecting the innocent. Inspired to create a safe haven for the multitudes fleeing enslavement he restores peace to their lives and, eventually, his own.

  1. Absolutely agree with weetiger3, despite the negative reviews, I hope people check this out and make up their own mind. Childers’ story alone is worth seeing, and Butler gave a tour de force performance.

  2. Definitely agree with you there. I saw the film on Monday night, and it was brilliant.
And Butler’s performance, like you said, was immense.
Michelle Monaghan was excellent in it too.

If nothing else, it’s a film people should see because it’s an issue that deserves far more recognition in real life in people’s minds than it gets.

  3. “Gerard Butler never has been better” – WHAT?! I really have to see that film, because I can’t believe. In my opinion he was the best in PotO. But I’m waiting 😀

  4. Have heard from the US that is is a really great movie. Gerry is explosive and it’s the best from him so far  Waiting also for Coriolanus also given rave reviews at TIFF standing ‘O’ for both performances.Pity it was a limited release in the US it could make another whole ton of money at the box officelike 300.I’ll be seeing this at least 10 times.  Wahey !!!

  5. I haven’t found this miovie but did meet Sam Childers at my Church. Bought the book and really hope to get the movie somehow. He talked to us at church and comes across as a real believer in helping these kids over in Africa. Pray for his mission and safety while over there. I was impressed with him, what he had to say and the bravery that he has in going into such a place. May GOD stay with him and protect him in his mission.
