New Tomb Raider RebootWhile we still have a lot of love for Lara Croft, we can’t help but feel her current-gen outings haven’t quite lived up to the legacy she set during the 32-bit era.

And after countless ‘new directions’ and the half-decent top-down auctioneer Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, it seems Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are properly heading back to the starting block.

The new reboot confirms industry rumours that have been floating around for some time, and solidify the developer’s intentions to re-establish the franchise as a world-class leader in the genre.

“Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider,” said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio, Crystal Dynamics told Game Informer with just a dash of hyperbole. “This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”

And that journey looks eerily like Lost’s.

“After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive,” the synopsis reads.

Platforms and release dates have yet to be revealed, but we can’t help but feel that refocusing the series on what helped us fall in love with it in the first place (and no, that isn’t code for ‘massive boobs’) could well lead to the greatest Lara Croft adventure yet.
