At this year’s Comic-Con, Legendary Pictures confirmed that along with Godzilla 2 they were developing a King Kong origin story called Skull Island. No additional details were revealed, though we have since learned that Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein would be penning the screenplay for this monster movie.

That has now been confirmed via press release today as the studio have announced that Jordan Vogt-Roberts is attached to direct Skull Island. He’s best known for popular Sundance film The Kings of Summer, but he’s also attached to Sony’s big screen adaptation of the Metal Gear Solid video game franchise.

Skull Island is set to be released on November 4th, 2016 and a brief (but rather vague) description of the film was included in the announcement. “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

However, one of the most exciting parts of this announcement is that Tom Hiddleston is attached to star!

The British actor has of course become known for playing Loki in The Avengers and Thor movies, though his other credits are numerous and include the upcoming Crimson Peak from Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro and Ben Wheatley’s adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s critically acclaimed novel High-Rise.
