The Highlander reboot is still moving ahead whether you want it or not, and Summit Entertainment are now courting Edge of Tomorrow star Tom Cruise to take over the mentor role originally filled by Sean Connery.

Whether or not Cruise is even remotely interested isn’t clear, but it appears as if the studio are are pursuing him despite the fact that he’s busy shooting Mission: Impossible 5 and has yet to line up any future projects.

According to the trade which broke the news, Highlander is among a number of projects which have been offered to Cruise and he is not yet in any sort of discussions for the movie helmed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan.

He’ll make his directorial debut with Highlander after serving as second unit director on Snow White and the Huntsman. Like the original which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod and Sean Connery as his mentor, Juan Ramirez, Highlander focuses on an immortal Scottish swordsman on a quest for revenge against a barbarian who has chased him across time as they battle for an all-powerful Prize.

It’s hard to imagine Cruise agreeing to take on a role like this, especially as this remake of Highlander has been met with a great deal of scepticism from fans of the original. Do you think Cruise is the right choice?
