Martin-Freeman-Paddy-Considine-Simon-Pegg-Nick-Frost-and-Eddie-Marsan-in-The-Worlds-EndThe World’s End is by far one of our most anticipated films of the year. Edgar Wright returns behind the camera to complete the Three Flavours Cornetto / Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, following on from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are of course front and centre once more, with fantastic support coming from Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, and Rosamund Pike.

After catching the first two brilliant teaser posters last year, we got our first official image from the film just before Christmas. And now Empire have released two great new images, giving us another look at Pegg, Frost, Freeman, Considine, and Marsan.

“20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”

Along with the images, we’ve also got a little update on the male characters, themselves:

Martin Freeman plays estate agent, Oliver; Paddy Considine is the one-time-rocker-turned-architectural-consultant, Steven; Nick Frost is a successful lawyer and Pegg’s on-screen estranged best friend, Andy; and Eddie Marsan is car dealer, Peter.

Wright is once more directing from a script he co-wrote with Pegg, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

““It’s a much bigger proposition than the other two films,” says Pegg of the follow-up.”

The World’s End is set for release on 14th August here in the UK, with its US release date set for 25th October. The odds are very good that this is going to be one of the best films of the year, by a long shot. I can’t wait. For now, here are the two great new images, which you can click through to enlarge.
