Searchlight Pictures has debuted the evocative first teaser trailer for ‘The Testament of Ann Lee,’ the latest film from award-winning writer-director Mona Fastvold (The World to Come, The Brutalist).

The film brings to life the extraordinary true legend of Ann Lee, the visionary founder of the Shakers — a woman whose spiritual conviction and pursuit of equality forever altered the fabric of American religious history.

Academy Award® nominee Amanda Seyfried leads the film as Ann Lee, the Shakers’ indomitable leader who preached gender and social equality, inspiring both devotion and controversy in equal measure. Through Fastvold’s lyrical direction, The Testament of Ann Lee captures the ecstasy and torment of a woman striving to create a utopia amid a world of resistance and doubt.

The film features a rich ensemble cast including Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott, and Stacy Martin. Co-written by Fastvold and Academy Award® nominee Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), the project unites two of contemporary cinema’s most distinctive voices in a sweeping exploration of faith, artistry, and female power.
