Production Wraps on Nick Nevern’s The Hooligan Factory & First Look Image

4

After making his directorial debut back in 2011 with the British crime-drama Terry, Nick Nevern has returned behind the camera this year for his second film, The Hooligan Factory.

This time around, Nevern is stepping into new territory, marking the first high-profile movie to spoof the Football hooligan genre that has found such impressive success on our shores in recent years.

Production has been underway since the middle of January, and it officially wrapped on Sunday. And we’ve had the first look image sent over in hi-res.

“Danny (Jason Maza) wants something more. Expelled from school and living in his grandfather’s flat, he longs to live up to the image of his estranged father Danny Senior. Meanwhile legendary football hooligan Dexter (Nick Nevern) is about to be released from prison and is on a quest of his own, one of vengeance against his nemesis and rival firm leader The Baron (Keith Lee Castle). But when Danny and Dexter’s paths cross they embark on a journey as old as hooliganism itself.”

The increasingly-impressive Jason Maza (Shifty) takes the lead here as Danny, starring alongside Tom Burke (Only God Forgives), Josef Altin (Game of Thrones), Ian Lavender (Dad’s Army), and Nevern himself, with cameo appearances from Leo Gregory (Green Street), Tony Denham (The Football Factory), Craig Fairbrass (Rise of the Footsoldier), Tamer Hassan (The Business), Chloe Simms (The Only Way is Essex), Julian Dicks, and Cass Pennant.

Nevern is directing from a script he co-wrote with Michael Lindley, who makes his feature debut as a writer. And along with taking the lead, Maza also serves as producer alongside Will Clarke (This Is England, Four Lions).

No word yet on exactly when we can expect to see The Hooligan Factory hit cinemas, but it’s certainly shaping up to be a promising entry for British cinema this year. For now, here’s the first look image, which you can click through to enlarge. And you can keep up to date on all things The Hooligan Factory-related over on their Facebook. More as we get it.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.

  1. This IS an original film. It is not a hooligan film, rather a parody of one. A comedy. This genre has never been spoofed before, and surely the fact that most football hooligan films are tired cliche (as I suspect you are alluding to) makes a parody of such films all the more fresh and welcome? smh

  2. Another Pile of SHITE with NON ACTORS nevern from devon. pile of piles.
