The arrival of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in cinemas is imminent, but before it hits in December, Warner Bros. is releasing the extended edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey early next month, making it a perfect choice for the festive season, so soon to be upon us.

The extended first instalment in Peter Jackson’s already hugely-successful trilogy has had an early release via VOD, and is available now. And with just under two weeks before its physical release on DVD and Blu-ray 3D, we’ve got an exclusive new featurett to share.

In it, we get to see Graham McTavish behind the scenes talking about Richard Taylor, the creator and head of Weta Workshop, and how influential his work on designing Dwalin’s chair was in helping McTavish get into character as one of the company of dwarves.

McTavish will of course be reprising his role once more this year, returning as Dwalin in December’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and will be closing out the trilogy as part of the brilliant ensemble at the end of next year in The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition is available now on iTunes, and will be released in the UK on DVD and Blu-ray 3D (both including a UV copy) on 11th November.
