Dreamworks Pictures have released the official trailer for The Help, alongside a couple of new images.

Directed by first-timer Tate Taylor, The Help is an adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s acclaimed novel, and stars Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Mika Vogel, Octavia Spencer and Chris Lowell.

Aibileen Clark (Davis) is a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson (Spencer) is an African-American maid who has often offended her employers despite her family’s struggles with money and her desperate need for jobs; and Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan (Stone) is a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating from college to find out her childhood maid has mysteriously disappeared. These three stories intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around “the help”; yet they are always kept at a certain distance because of racial lines.

The Help will be released in the US on August 12 and will undoubtedly garner some buzz come awards season.
