The first trailer has been released for ‘The Chronology of Water,’ the biographical romantic drama adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s acclaimed 2011 autobiographical novel. The film marks Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut, offering a bold and deeply personal portrait of a woman navigating pain, identity, and artistic self-discovery.

Led by Imogen Poots, the story follows a professional swimmer and Olympic hopeful whose life veers into turbulent territory as she embarks on a raw, unflinching journey of self-exploration. The trailer teases a film rich with impressionistic visuals and emotionally charged performances, capturing both the beauty and brutality of Lidia’s lived experiences.

Spanning her earliest memories in the Pacific Northwest, the film traces Lidia’s evolution from prodigious young swimmer to a woman fighting to define herself amid fractured relationships and a chaotic home life. Scenes hint at a childhood marked by a raging father and an alcoholic, suicidal mother, as well as the adult Lidia’s struggles with near-motherhood, addiction, promiscuity, and meaningful encounters with the artistic figures who shaped her worldview.

The supporting cast includes Thora Birch as Claudia, Susannah Flood as Dorothy, Tom Sturridge as Kevin, and Jim Belushi as Ken Kesey, rounding out the real-life constellation of people who cross Lidia’s path as she attempts to piece together her identity.
