To celebrate the release of the second season of The Artful Dodger, which returns to Disney+ this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with the two leads of the show to find out more about picking a pocket or two.
The Artful Dodger returns, and he’s in deep trouble. He’s got an appointment with the noose, he’s being hunted by a new lawman, Inspector Boxer, and if he sees the woman he loves, Lady Belle, he’ll be hanged. Meanwhile, Belle is determined to forge her future in medicine, driven by ambition and a love already hanging in the balance. With Boxer competing with Jack for Belle’s affection, the crafty Fagin drags him into their most dangerous heist yet, and a killer is on the loose.
This comedy-adventure series, co-created by James McNamara and inspired by Oliver Twist, stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, David Thewlis as Fagin and Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox.
Season two ups the ante, introducing Luke Bracey as Inspector Henry Boxer, Jeremy Sims as Uncle Dickie, and rising star Zac Burgess as Phineas Golden. The series’ beloved ensemble cast returns, including Susie Porter as Lady Jane Fox, Damien Garvey as Governor Fox, Tim Minchin back as Darius Cracksworth, Lucy-Rose Leonard as fan-favourite Lady Fanny Fox and more.
Chatting to Brodie-Sangster and Thewlis, we talk about the success of the first season and fan reactions, developing the story and characters in the second season, the thought of bringing a sing-song in future seasons, why Jessie Buckley would be a perfect addition in Season 3 and much more.
