Ahh. 2006. High School Musical. Zac Efron so pure, so chaste. Fast forward seven years. Efron dipping a fairly long fake willy into the drink of his girlfriend’s mother, having gravely misunderstood the nature of the party to which he had been invited. How things change.

In all honesty, Efron has been slowly but surely working his way through very interesting work since finishing up the High School Musical franchise. Rather than seeming to deliberately provoke controversy, he has instead given us a mixture of relatively light-hearted films like 17 Again or Hairspray and more edgy material like The Paperboy and the upcoming Parkland.

That Awkward Moment (as the NSFW red band trailer below demonstrates) gives us three friends getting up to an assortment of shenanigans, as they navigate relationships, Viagra and strap-on appendages. It’s hardly terribly novel stuff but likewise it doesn’t seem to be going for unpleasant/gross for the sake of being “shocking”.

The trailer gives a good number of laughs and as long as it hasn’t given us all of the best bits already, there should be lots of fun to be had come next January’s release date.

So here you go.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
