Bllues-Borthers

Blues Brothers / Blues Brothers 2000

What’s sad about this sequel is that it feels pushed by a studio to the point it’s disrespectful. John Belushi tragically passed away before his time and created a lovable character in this franchise – it’s offensive to even call it that.

No great respect is ever paid to the character that, when combined with Ackroyd’s, became iconic. This may be one of the worst sequels of all simply due to the impudence of its creation which essentially remakes the first irreverently.

Another huge offence on the film’s part is that there’s room for a sequel: a second story, more jokes, even a tribute to Belushi.  Decent songs are the only thing acceptable in this. Aretha Franklin returns, asking for more respect which seems to be what the film is begging for. It deserves no respect, it doesn’t even deserve a mention as it’s the lowest low that the studio system has sunk to.

It’s remarkable it got Dan Ayckroyd and John Goodman never mind the green light.
