Sylvester Stallone has been leaking information on his Instagram again, This time, over the weekend he has hinted at a return to the Expendables in its fourth instalment.
Having posted an old photo which consisted of himself alongside action man Jason Statham and Randy Couture with the text “We are the shadows and the smoke, we rise. We are the ghosts that in the night… Just when you thought it was safe to go outside…They’re coming back!.”
The film series itself was created to pay homage to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and ’90s and also pays gratitude to the action stars of those decades, as well as more recent stars in action. The series consists of three films: The Expendables (2010), The Expendables 2 (2012) and The Expendables 3 (2014),
Originally created by Callaham, the franchise is close to Stallone’s heart after having co-written the screenplay for the previous episodes, although the fourth has had a bumpy ride coming to fruition after Stallone clashed with studio bosses over a number of issues which included a director and screenplay.
After the first hit, the huge box office success a whole host of possibilities arose for the franchise which followed with two sequels which included an all-female spin-off provisionally entitled The Expendabelles. Stallone denied being a part of that venture and the idea seems to have been put on ice for the foreseeable future.
