The play is set entirely in an Oklahoma country house where a pill-popping mother (to be played by Streep) clashes with her oldest daughter (guess who), following the death of her husband, and Robert’s character’s father. Sounds like a chance for both actresses to really flex their acting muscles and for Harvey Weinstein (it’s being produced by The Weinstein Company) to start mounting his campaigns for 2012’s awards season.
The film will be directed by John Wells, whose feature directing debut (he’s a veteran producer of a number of high-profile TV shows in the US), The Company Men, was recently acquired by the brothers Weinstein.
