We all knew that Jurassic World would only hold all of those box office records until Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released, and that’s now proven to be the case as the J.J. Abrams helmed release has passed $1 billion worldwide in a record time of twelve days.
The movie is also the quickest ever to hit benchmarks like $100 million, $200 million, $300 million, $400 million, and $500 million in North America as it has a current total of $544.6 million after a massive $153.5 million weekend. Overseas, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has grossed $544.6 million, and that’s before its upcoming release in China next month.
Some estimates have it on track to earn as much as $1 billion in North America, and regardless of whether that happens, it will certainly top Avatar’s haul of $760.5 million.
Will The Force Awakens end up topping $2.7 billion worldwide though? It’s certainly taking aim at that all important $2 billion mark anyway, and you have to believe that Disney and Lucasfilm are hoping to see the movie become the highest grossing release of all-time!
Do you think Star Wars: The Force Awakens will beat Avatar’s record? Here’s hoping, eh?
