Princess Leia

The principle members of the Star Wars Episode VII cast may have been announced earlier today, but a new report claims that director J.J. Abrams has another substantial role to fill; that of a female lead! Could it be the role that 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o and newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers were rumoured to be in contention for not too long ago?

That called for a young mixed-race actress who it was speculated was either somehow related to Lando Calrissian or a descendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Other sources claim that we’ll hear more casting news over the next few days, with those announced today simply the actors who make up the “main” Star Wars cast.

With Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Zac Efron all hinting at possible roles in Star Wars Episode VII, could we see their names crop up at some point in the near future as more deals close?

In related Star Wars Episode VII news, box office analysts have already started weighing in with their opinions on how well the movie could perform come December 18th, 2015. Early estimates (well, guesstimates) have it pegged at earning an eventual worldwide total of over billion.

That’s not too hard to imagine, especially given the impressive cast, brand recognition and the fact that it opens on the same date that the highest grossing movie of all-time – Avatar – did back in 2009.

What do you guys think?
