Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Teaser-PosterJ.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness is naturally expected to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.

Abrams returns us to the Star Trek universe for the second film in his franchise reboot, and with his usual level of secrecy surrounding the blockbuster, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Paramount did a brilliant job of bringing the film to the attentions of the masses with the Super Bowl TV spot. And now they’ve just sent over the film’s new motion poster, which gives a great new look at Benedict Cumberbatch’s unidentified villain that we first saw with the first teaser poster late last year.

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

The cast for the sequel is even more impressive, led by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, and Noel Clarke.

Abrams is directing from a script penned by co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Damon Lindelof (Prometheus). So the script should be awesome.

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 17th May. Be sure to mark that date in your calendars, because this is going to have everyone talking. Here’s the new motion poster to get you in the mood. Can’t help but love that Cumberbatch monologue.
