[UPDATED] At the start of the month, J.J. Abrams released the first sneak peek for his upcoming sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.

It was three frames long, which wasn’t much, but it was nonetheless awesome to see.

Now, with the film’s release on the horizon in the spring, Paramount have launched the official Facebook, and have announced that when the page reaches 500,000 likes, they’ll launch an ‘exclusive trailer’, which will presumably be a) more than three frames long, and b) the real first teaser trailer.

And not only that, but they’ve announced that those who like the page are entered into a contest to win an all-expenses-paid trip holiday (including everything [even the hotel mini bar]) to California for you and five friends, to walk the red carpet and sit with the cast during the premiere, and win $60,000 split between you!

If that’s not good marketing, I don’t know what is.

The official synopsis is naturally being kept under wraps, which is just how we like it, but we do know that the script comes from the pens of Damon Lindelof (Prometheus) and writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers).

The cast is expectedly brilliant, with a host of new and old faces alike, headed up by Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, and Noel Clarke.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set for release on 17th May, 2013, and is expected to have an IMAX release, too. We’re very much looking to the trailer, so head over to Facebook now, get liking, and get all your friends to start liking!

[UPDATED: Word on the grapevine is that the Internet isn’t quite ready for the teaser trailer just yet. Alas, it looks like this Facebook page is a fake, which has now been taken down. But here’s to hoping that we’ll be getting the first teaser trailer sometime soon all the same.]
