Captain America

Captain America: The Winter Soldier has opened to a huge amount of praise from critics, with many hailing it as Marvel’s best movie yet. With only Guardians of the Galaxy (a movie which it’s believed will be used more to set up the third Avengers movie than this next one) to go before the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron , it’s down to Captain America to bridge the gap between movies.

However, Marvel smartly avoided throwing in too many Easter eggs and making this sequel all about setting up what’s to come as they did to some extent with Iron Man 2. Of course, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t still many notable moments and references in Captain America: The Winter Soldier both for this franchise and The Avengers. Here, we count down ten of the biggest!

Of course, it goes without saying that if you’re yet to watch the movie, then you’d best stop reading now as there are plenty of spoilers ahead. Be sure to let us know your thoughts on these below!

10. Batroc the Leaper

Batroc

Captain America’s rogues gallery isn’t quite as impressive as the likes of Spider-Man or Batman, but it was a very pleasant surprise to see what directing duo Anthony and Joe Russo did with one of his cheesier foes, Batroc the Leaper. While they did away with the mask, the villain was still outfitted in a costume very similar to his comic book counterpart, and was just as impressive – if not more so – in terms of fighting abilities. It was clear from these scenes that The Raid: Redemption was a big influence on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Marvel were smart to turn Batroc into a formidable foe for Steve Rogers instead of what could have potentially been an appearance which turned him into a point of ridicule. Here’s hoping we see more of him in the next movie…
