6. Lost

Lost

As ┬átime went on, Lost went from being a show about a group of people cast away on a desert island to a full on sci-fi tale about time travel and the like. That was by no means a bad thing, and it quickly established itself as one of the most unique and compelling shows on television. However, by the time the final season rolled around, they had run out of flashbacks and flashforwards to flesh the episodes out with and we were left with a bizarre alternate reality of sorts. Meanwhile, back on the island, the battle with the┬áMan in Black continued, and all the signs pointed to an epic finale! Unfortunately, that wasn’t quite how things panned out.

The events of the island were a little strange, but not out of place with what had come before. The problem was that the mythology was never revealed; who were the mysterious forces of light and dark and why exactly was the island imbued with such a mystical background? This all went unanswered, while the “flashsideways” were revealed to have taken place in purgatory, reuniting the characters and giving them a happy ending. It’s hard to escape the thought that a better written version of all this could have worked perfectly, but it left so much unanswered and unexplained that viewers were just left confused and unsatisfied.
