5. Frank Abagnale Jr – Catch Me If You Can
Catch Me If You Can will never be mistaken for the deepest work DiCaprio has ever done, but it is a gloriously entertaining caper movie and amongst the most underrated of Spielberg’s oeuvre. DiCaprio’s performance as Frank Abagnale Jr is effortless and he embodies the con man as a charming chameleon with unmatched confidence.
Abaganale Jr lived an extraordinary life if his tales are to be believed and DiCaprio does a great job at making the man seem larger than life. 2o02 was a landmark year for DiCaprio as it involved his first collaboration with Scorsese (Gangs of New York) and also this mammoth success as he started to prove to the wider public he was more than just the pretty boy from Titanic.
