Whilst the original Ocean’s Eleven was, ultimately, a lot cooler, as a film it didn’t really have a great deal to offer. Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 comedy thriller was a far slicker effort, and provides a great deal of entertainment. George Clooney’s Danny Ocean puts a team together for the ultimate casino heist. Three casinos in one night.
The plot of Ocean’s Eleven walks a thin line between clever and ridiculous, and ultimately becomes more than a little silly. There’s no denying, though, that it is fun throughout, both for the audience AND the cast. Ocean’s Eleven IS the Vegas dream. Taking the town by storm, and getting away with considerably more money than you took in.
Ocean’s Eleven is a great celebration of the spirit and sights of Las Vegas, and is worth watching just for the fun and colour alone.
