5. Stardust

Stardust

You may be surprised to see Stardust on this list. After all, despite receiving positive reviews from critics, it was only really a moderate financial success and doesn’t have the same sort of rabid fanbase associated with similar fantasy films. However, Matthew Vaughn’s take on Neil Gaiman’s novel boasted an impressive cast and a story which rivals that of another fantasy classic, The Princess Bride.

Stardust flies under the radar in many ways, and with the likes of X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass on his CV, may not even be the film that Vaughn is most widely recognised for when it arguably should be. At its heart, Stardust is a movie which is a lot of fun and has something for everyone whether it be comedy, romance or action. It just feels like one of those movies which is made to make you feel good, and in that respect, it never fails to deliver.

He may be busy adapting another of Mark Millar’s comic books (The Secret Service), but here’s hoping that Vaughn makes a return to the genre…
